Bedpush is a long time tradition for the Aggies of the University of Manitoba. It all started with a creative idea to raise money for the Winnipeg Fire Fighters Burn Unit, and what better way to raise funds than to push a bed frame on wheels from Brandon to Winnipeg! For over 30 years, the Aggies have been pushing that very same bed over 221 km on the same route raising awareness and funds for charities of the student body’s choice.
For the last three years, instead of traveling along the Trans Canada Highway, the group of Aggies pushed the bed down the main streets of Manitoba communities. Our amazing sponsors helped out by holding BBQ’s along the way and some communities had coffee and snacks waiting for the hard working students! Over the last three years, Bedpush has raised over $22,000 for the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, Growing Support for CancerCare and Manitoba Farmers with Disabilities.
2018 – 2019 Year
This year the charity we have chosen to support is Ronald McDonald House Charities Manitoba (RMHC Manitoba), an organization that keeps families together. They operate two core programs: Ronald McDonald House and Ronald McDonald Family Room in HSC Children’s Hospital. Ronald McDonald House is a “home-away-from-home” for rural Manitoban and out-of-province families with a child requiring treatment at a nearby hospital. The House is a warm, supportive, and welcoming space where families can stay close, be together and connect with each other in a compassionate and supportive environment.
On Sept 28 and 29, 2018 the Bedpush team will travel to the communities of Elie, Portage la Prairie, Gladstone, Minnedosa, Killarney, Baldur, St. Claude, and Carman – the hometowns of many of the students.
Donations will be accepted along the route of the Bedpush in each of the individual towns. Cheques can be made payable to Ronald McDonald House Charities. Donate online by clicking on the button below – be sure to indicate Aggie Bedpush in the “Notes” section on the payment page.
